Assignment: Support A Summer Program
ASSIGNMENT: Help support the summer program at Milo Community Center.
REFERRING OFFICER: Columbus Division of Police Community Liaison Officer Tony Rogers (7 Precinct).
Mario Dovell has moved from his former rec center of Krumm Park to Milo Community Center while the city completes construction on the new Linden Recreation Center (which will be his new home). But he's already thrown his heart into making a difference at Milo, and Ofc Rogers has asked Starfish to help support him and the kids he cares so deeply for.
Milo's summer program is open, although it's limited to 25 kids. Every Friday, Mario has a barbecue for the children who attend. In addition, he and the staff plan fun events and activities that are appropriate for these times. Giving these kids a safe place to play and learn with positive role models cannot be underestimated. In addition, we appreciate Mario's continued efforts to foster great relationships between the police and the community.
Starfish is going to support these efforts with a donation and with a Books & Badges event on July 10. Deputy Chief Tim Becker will read Where the Sidewalk Ends, and each child will receive a copy of the book to take home. We are very excited to have an in-person Books & Badges--our first since March 13.
If you would also like to make a donation to the summer program at Milo, you can do so here.
Also, if you haven't seen the video of Mario's kids racing CPD, it's worth a look. We're working on getting them some fresh competition. 😉
