Over 10,000 Books Since December 19, 2019!

Books & Badges

Books & Badges enables police officers to read to elementary school students, and Starfish Assignment then gives every child a copy of the book the officer reads. Each book has a bookplate in it that says it’s a gift from their police officer friends.

These fun events encourage literacy and allow the officers to bond with the kids in their patrol area. The students have an opportunity to ask the officers questions about their jobs and lives. Please see our blog to read more details about individual Books & Badges events. Popular questions include, "Do you really eat donuts and drink coffee?" But our personal favorite was, "Are there zombies in Cleveland?"

Readings aren't limited to classrooms! In fact, our partnership with the Columbus Regional Airport Authority Police at John Glenn International Airport is believed to be the first program of its kind in the country. Our other partner agencies, in addition to Columbus Division of Police, include Franklin Township Police Department and Dublin (Ohio) Police.
