Assignment: Christmas Dinner for a Family of Five

REFERRING OFFICER: Columbus Division of Police Ofc Ed Chung, 19 Precinct (Hilltop), pictured here with Starfish Assignment Treasurer, Shirley Cartagena, at one of our Pizza Patrol luncheons.

ASSIGNMENT: Provide Christmas dinner and, if possible, some extra food, for a family of five.

FACILITATOR: Nicole Banks

Officer Chung holds a special place in our hearts here at Starfish Assignment, not just because he was one of the first police officers to believe in us, but also because he leads CPD in using Narcan to save people who are overdosing. To date, he has saved the lives of 42 people by using Narcan to reverse their opioid overdoses. Forty-two.

One of the men he saved, Walter, accepted Ofc Chung's offer to get him into treatment, and he is now clean and sober. Walter is doing well mentally and physically, and is working 70 hours a week to provide for his family. The job Walter has is one in which Ofc Chung gets to see him often in the course of his police duties, and Ofc Chung knows that the family is struggling to make ends meet.

With your help, we'd like to provide Christmas dinner to Walter and his family. Our plan is to meet with him at his preferred grocery store and help him pick out some items, then hopefully have enough to also give him a gift card to the store so he can buy food into the new year.

If you are able, please consider a donation to help Ofc Chung help this family. Any amount helps--$5 donations add up quickly! You can transfer money via PayPal or via Venmo (@StarfishAssignment). If you'd prefer to mail in a check, please message us and we'll get the mailing address to you.

Thank you for your continued generosity. ❤️
