Recently, Columbus Division of Police Officer Nathan Hanna responded to a devastating call from a mother of two who had been the victim of a scam. Someone pretending to be from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office convinced her she had a warrant and needed to pay bond immediately. Using personal information, they made the threat sound real. Fearing she would lose her children and her home, she gave them everything she had. That included money for rent, food, diapers, and savings she had been building for a year to take her kids to Disney World.
Thanks to Officer Hanna’s quick action, we were able to work with him to get her emergency groceries, diapers, and other urgent necessities. Our friend Katherine Cull from the City of Columbus connected her to other local charities. Now, thanks to our amazing Starfish donors, including Byers Auto and US Bank, we’ve been able to give her an additional $1,000 to help her regain stability.
Officer Hanna's compassion ensured she wasn’t alone. Our Starfish family ensured she was supported. Thank you for being the generous, caring people we can count on when it matters most.
