Congratulations, Deputy Shook!

We’re honored to recognize Deputy Connor Shook of the Licking County Sheriff’s Office as this quarter’s recipient of the Starfish Assignment Make a Difference Award.

Deputy Shook exemplifies what it means to show up for your community. Whether he’s reading to students through the Books & Badges program or leading a mock trial to help kids better understand the legal system, he makes law enforcement more approachable and human. He’s consistent, reliable, and genuinely kind. He is someone who not only says yes when asked for help but finds ways to offer it before you’ve even thought to ask.

Deputy Connor Shook of the Licking County Sheriff's Office has distinguished himself through his unwavering commitment to community service and public engagement. His dedication to fostering strong relationships between law enforcement and the people he serves is evident in every aspect of his work.

Deputy Shook consistently steps forward to meet the needs of the community. His work with the LCSO’s Books & Badges program is a clear example, as he helped coordinate with schools across multiple districts to bring the joy of reading to hundreds of children. During one reading, when asked about one of his first calls--rescuing a bat from a home--he recounted the story with humor, referring to his service belt as his "Batman Belt," demonstrating the approachable and genuine way he interacts with children and families.

In addition to his efforts with Books & Badges, Deputy Shook helped launch the Starfish Connect program at the Boys & Girls Club last summer. Through activities such as a mock trial, he gave youth meaningful exposure to the legal system and the role of law enforcement, strengthening trust and building understanding.

Known for his reliability and proactive approach, Deputy Shook ensures that whenever assistance is needed, he or someone he arranges will be there. His dedication and enthusiasm are reflected not only in his work but also in the respect and trust he has earned from his colleagues and community.
