Today, we celebrate the retirement of Columbus Division of Police Officer Brian Carter, K9-10, after nearly 34 years of dedicated service. He’s joined by his longtime partner, K9 Odja, a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois.
These two were a high-powered crime-fighting team who also made time to share their gifts with the community. We were fortunate to know them through their many Books & Badges visits, where Officer Carter encouraged children to read, a hobby he genuinely enjoys, and Odja wowed students with his high-energy, kangaroo-like jumps. Together, they brought smiles and inspiration wherever they went, while teaching children about policing and the duties of K9 teams.
They’ve both earned their beachside retirement, and we’re excited for them to enjoy this next chapter. Thank you, Officer Carter and K9 Odja, for your service, your kindness, and the lasting memories you’ve given to so many children across Columbus.
