In April, thanks to an idea from Columbus Division of Police Officer Dan Snyder, we partnered with Lowe's Home Improvement to obtain door security bars for officers and detectives to give out as necessary to crime victims. Recently, Sergeant Stephen Carr let us know that those bars may have saved a life:
"We responded to a report of a burglary in progress where a known suspect was attempting to force his way inside his estranged girlfriend’s home. The suspect had been sending her death threats via text messages and the victim was very concerned for her safety when he actually showed up and tried kicking open her door.
"Unfortunately, the suspect had fled before we arrived but while speaking to the victim, we observed we had previously given her two of the security bars provided by Starfish (one at the front door and one on the back). The victim stated the only reason the suspect didn’t get inside her home was because of the bars. She was very grateful. We did file warrants for the suspect’s arrest."
This incident highlights just how crucial proper home security can be. When someone is facing real threats, having the right protective measures in place makes all the difference. In this case, the security bars effectively prevented a break-in and possibly saved a life. It's a powerful reminder that securing entry points should never be overlooked. A trusted key locksmith can help homeowners strengthen their defenses by installing high-quality locks, reinforcement devices, and offering expert advice tailored to each unique situation.
