It was cold for our Fifth Annual Cops & Gobblers, but our hearts were so full we hardly noticed, even when it snowed!
This event began as an idea from Columbus Division of Police officers in South Linden, who wanted to give back to the community they care so deeply about. Since then, we’ve partnered with them each year to bring Thanksgiving cheer to every resident of Rosewind Apartments.
Today, we were joined by an incredible group of people: members of the Ohio State football team, the FBI - Cincinnati, the US Marshals, Dublin Police, Gahanna Division of Police, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, the 614 Cadets, our sponsors from KEMBA Financial Credit Union, and so many other friends. Together, we went door to door, visiting over 200 homes and sharing not just frozen turkeys and sides, but also smiles, stories, and moments of connection.
A huge thank-you to the law enforcement officers, volunteers, and partners whose hard work and dedication made this event such a success. Special appreciation goes to our sponsors—KEMBA Financial Credit Union, Walmart Dublin - Britton Pkwy, and our amazing Starfish donors. Many of them were right there with us, unloading turkeys, carrying groceries, and helping spread joy.
We’re especially grateful to the OSU football players who took time out of their busy schedule—right before their big game against Indiana—to join us. They brought such energy and kindness, connecting not just with the neighborhood but with all of us. It was a privilege to meet such wonderful young men!
The world can be a tough place, and as the saying goes, everyone is fighting their own battles. That’s why events like these matter so much—they bring people together, lift spirits, and remind us all of the power of community. We’re still smiling from the day and already looking forward to next year!
If you or someone you know needs a Thanksgiving meal, CPD will be giving away turkeys tomorrow at precincts across the city. Check their social media for details. For additional resources, visit findhelp.org.
