Helping a Young Mother

Our longtime friend, Columbus Division of Police Sergeant Alex Mottinger, reached out to us on behalf of some of his amazing officers who were helping a determined young woman leave an abusive relationship. Officers Downton, Jones, Verduga, and Marshall were ready to escort her to safety, but her former partner refused to unlock his car so she could retrieve her children’s car seat and other belongings.

To make sure she had what she needed, we authorized the officers to purchase replacement items. They were promptly reimbursed from our emergency fund, which exists thanks to the generosity of Starfish donors.

We are grateful to Sergeant Mottinger and Officers Downton, Jones, Verduga, and Marshall for their compassion and commitment, and to our donors who make it possible for us to offer immediate support in moments like these. We wish this young mother and her children strength and peace as they begin this new chapter.
