30 Days of Kindness: Day 27
Thank you to Kimberley Cowie for sharing information with us about a local (and very well known soap vendor) who was giving away pump hand soap. Kim picked up a case for us for the storage locker that Columbus Division of Police Officer Amanda Hoover has on the South Side (and even delivered it!). 💙 We told our friend Kathy Jackson of I Support the Girls - Columbus, who is pictured below with new friends Shawn and David, and who writes, "These gentlemen helped load my car wi

30 Days of Kindness: Day 24
Thank you to Swensons Drive-In Restaurants for donating lunch to the Columbus Division of Police officers at 13 Precinct (South Side) and Zone 2 CRT, and thanks to Starfish supporter Deb Papesh for arranging it and dropping it off. Especially in these times, it's so nice to show people you care, and food is a great way to do that! Do what you can today to show someone you care about them. 💙❤️ #30DaysofKindness

30 Days of Kindness: Day 15
To say that 13 Precinct Columbus Division of Police Officer Amanda Hoover is devoted to the South Side area she serves is an understatement. She pays $50 a month to rent a storage unit where she and her fellow officers can store things like socks, underwear, hygiene products, diapers, and non-perishable foods. These items are often needed by the people the officers encounter in the course of their duties, so instead of making runs to Walmart, Ofc Hoover put them in a location

30 Days of Kindness: Day 12
Yesterday, our president, Nicole Banks, and volunteer, Jim Stewart, stumbled onto one of the Curbside Concerts sponsored by the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Smart Columbus, and Ricart Automotive. This is a beautiful program that takes music to seniors. From their website, "We get it. Being quarantined is hard...But that doesn't mean we have to miss out on all the joys in life. A lot of us are joining zoom concerts and Facebook Live events to be social on the internet. But o

30 Days of Kindness: Day 9
We'd like to thank Starfish supporter Deb Papesh for connecting us to Swensons Drive-In Restaurants, who kindly fed two shifts of hungry Columbus Division of Police officers at 13 Precinct (South Side). Both Deb and her friends at Swenson's are amazing, devoted servants of the community, and we really appreciate their kindness (and we know the officers did, too)! 💙❤️ #30DaysofKindness

30 Days of Kindness: Day 7
Our friend, Columbus Division of Police Officer James Poole is featured in the latest edition of the Greater Eastside Coalition newsletter. It reads, "This week we would like to highlight the work of one of our great leaders who could be considered a founding member. Officer James Poole, 20th Precinct Liaison for the Columbus Police Department. Most Eastside community leaders and advocates can hardly remember a time without Officer Poole. There have been very few that have le

30 Days of Kindness: Day 5
"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Today, we'd like to ask you to be kind to others. In normal, non-Quarantine times, some people are happy, some are really struggling. But nowadays, everyone is fighting a battle of some sort. As you go about your lives, we'd like to ask you to be kind to others, recognizing that everyone is struggling. Our friend Shantel had an encounter yesterday that she bravely allowed us to share. It poignantly illustrates this p

30 Days of Kindness: Day 4
Starfish supporter Kathy Jackson said yesterday an old friend reached out to her unexpectedly, just to check in and see how she was doing, and she was completely overwhelmed with happiness. She's been doing this for others, but to have someone do it to her was truly a treat. Today try to reach out and do this same thing for at least one person in your life...maybe even three. 30 Days of Kindness: Day 3
Today's act of kindness comes from Ashley, who channeled her upset over her COVID-19 canceled honeymoon (and at-risk wedding reception) into making home-baked goodies. She distracted herself by making Amish Cinnamon Bread and Lemon Loaf, then wrapped them hot from the oven and deposited them on the doorsteps of a few neighbors. She's provided the recipes if you'd like to do the same for your neighbors. If your baking would alienate rather than endear your neighbors to you, ho

30 Days of Kindness: Day 2
Thanks to Olivia for the photo on today's post. She gave Clorox and Wet Ones wipes to two Columbus Division of Police officers as part of our 30 Days of Kindness Challenge yesterday. Happy smiles from both officers, as you can see! What a great way to spread joy and support our first responders at the same time. If you have antibacterial wipes, hand gel, gloves, new thermometers, or even paper towels, this is a great idea. If you're in Columbus and need items picked up, plea
